Palmer man with four warrants arrested after 100 mph pursuit ends in rollover

A pursuit that reached speeds above 100 mph ended when a Palmer man lost control, rolled his vehicle into a ditch, and was pinned against a tree late Wednesday, Alaska State Troopers reported.

Troopers spotted the vehicle near Stringfield Road and Bogard Road around 11:45 p.m. The driver, identified as Austin Banks, 23, was already wanted on four outstanding warrants: a prior failure to stop charge, burglary in the second degree, larceny, and driving while license revoked. The vehicle had been traveling at high speed through a construction zone before Banks fled, ran a red light, and lost control on a curve. No other injuries were reported. No other occupants were in the vehicle. Fire and rescue extricated him after the rollover left the car on its roof.

After treatment at Mat-Su Regional Hospital, Banks was remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility on the original warrants plus new charges of failure to stop at the direction of a peace officer in the first degree, misuse of license plates, and reckless driving. All charges are accusations. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
