Kenai Peninsula Borough Planning Commission takes up cabin permit inside Kenai River buffer

The Kenai Peninsula Borough Planning Commission took up a request Monday to place a cabin inside the 50-foot development buffer protecting the Kenai River at its June 22, 2026 meeting, held at 7:30 p.m. in the Betty J. Glick Assembly Chambers in Soldotna.

Wearly Catching Silvers, LLC applied for a conditional use permit (PC Resolution 2026-34) to set a cabin on a gravel parking pad within the Habitat Protection District at 45439 Catching Silvers Drive in the Soldotna area, parcel 05525312. Any structure within the 50-foot setback requires commission approval before it can proceed.

Habitat Protection District

The Kenai Peninsula Borough River Center administers the borough's Habitat Protection District, which establishes a 50-foot development setback from anadromous streams, rivers, and lakes in the borough. The Wearly Catching Silvers, LLC request falls within that district along the Kenai River.

Other Business

The commission also took up old business on a conditional land use permit for Colaska Inc. dba QAP under PC Resolution 2026-29, with a findings discussion listed on the agenda.

Parties of record have 15 days from the notice of decision to file an appeal with the Borough Clerk. The next commission meeting is scheduled for July 20, 2026, in the Betty J. Glick Assembly Chambers in Soldotna.
