Ketchikan inmate charged after attacking fellow inmate with sharpened pencils
A man already held at Ketchikan Correctional Center faces a new assault charge after allegedly trying to stab a fellow inmate in the eye with sharpened pencils Wednesday evening.
Cory Kelly, 38, of Ketchikan, is charged with Assault in the 2nd Degree following the attack at the facility. KCC staff contacted Alaska State Troopers at about 6:21 p.m.
The victim was sitting in the day room watching a movie when Kelly attacked him, according to the trooper dispatch. He suffered minor injuries to the right side of his face and was transported to PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center by KCC staff, where he was treated and released.
Kelly was already in custody when the assault occurred. Troopers remanded him on the new charge.
Charges in the dispatch are accusations. Kelly is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
