Kenai zoning commission to take up gravel setback variances Aug. 26
Gravel extraction could expand into required setbacks under five resolutions the Kenai Planning & Zoning Commission takes up Wednesday, Aug. 26.
Two would grant conditional use permits for surface extraction of natural resources on KPB parcels 04901069 and 04901070. Three would grant variances allowing extraction within setbacks on those parcels and on KPB parcel 04911029.
All five are unfinished business, carried forward after the July 29 meeting failed to reach a quorum.
Kurt Wilcox told the commission Aug. 12: "So my issue with they wanting a conditional use permit to dig into the buffer is going to take quite a few documents to show why this is unacceptable."
Borough rules require a conditional land use permit for material sites larger than five acres.
The commission meets at 7 p.m. in the Kenai City Council Chambers. Speakers get three minutes for unscheduled public comment. Scheduled public comment allows 10 minutes.
