Kenai commission permits an Elks Lodge RV park a staff report says has run for years

Six RV spaces at the Kenai Elks Lodge, 205 Barnacle Way, now operate under a city permit after years without one. The Planning and Zoning Commission approved it Wednesday, Aug. 26, by unanimous consent.

The park has water and electricity hookups on a 1.06-acre lot in the Central Mixed Use zone, where RV parks require a conditional use permit. A staff report and Planning Director Kevin Buettner said it had run for years "without any issues or complaints." Dumping is barred on site; guests must use an authorized dump area and dispose of their own trash.

The lodge gave advance notice and skipped the hearing, leaving commissioners without direct testimony. The one public comment, from a neighboring property owner in support, was left out of the packet by oversight, Buettner said, though the report says it "is included in this packet."

Conditions include a yearly report between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, a clean site, inspections on request, and a new permit if the use expands or changes. Appeals go to the clerk's office within 15 days.
