Ford F150 crosses Glenn Highway median, kills two drivers and critically injures child
Two drivers died Thursday morning on the Glenn Highway after a Ford F150 crossed the median near the S Curves and struck three vehicles, leaving a child hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and shutting a major Anchorage-Mat-Su commuter corridor for hours.
The Anchorage Police Department said the F150 crossed from the northbound lanes into southbound traffic at about 8 a.m., hitting a GMC Acadia, a Ford Explorer, and a Kia Soul. The driver of the F150 and the driver of the Kia Soul were declared dead at the scene. A juvenile passenger in the Kia Soul was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The drivers of the Acadia and the Explorer were not injured.
APD closed the southbound lanes in the area of the S Curves while officers investigated. "The Southbound lanes of the Glenn Highway are closed in the area of the S Curves due to a vehicle collision," APD said. "Updates will be posted as they are available." APD updated its report at 4:30 p.m., noting that one southbound lane and two northbound lanes had been reopened.
The S Curves, located near the Anchorage Weigh Station, carry daily commuter traffic between Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley. The corridor has been the site of prior serious crashes and public safety discussions. Gubernatorial candidate Dave Bronson cited a recent pedestrian death on the Glenn Highway in June, saying "something has got to change." The Alaska Department of Transportation listed a Glenn Highway Incident Management Traffic Accommodations project in final design as of early 2026.
APD is withholding the names of the two deceased drivers until next-of-kin notification is complete. The department has opened case 26-18146. Anyone with information can contact APD.
