About this event
The National Weather Service in Anchorage has issued a Red Flag Warning for Inland Bristol Bay, Lake Iliamna, Nila Vena, and Nanvarpak. The warning is effective from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Thursday, June 4, 2026. The alert is driven by a combination of hot temperatures, low relative humidity, and northwest winds gusting up to 20 mph, which create a high risk for rapid wildfire spread.
While temperatures are expected to be slightly cooler than the previous day, the combination of dry fuels and wind remains a significant concern. The most severe conditions are anticipated in the Iliamna area, while Port Alsworth is expected to experience heat and dryness with less wind. A cooling trend and increased humidity are forecasted to begin on Friday.
The Alaska Division of Forestry & Fire Protection (DFFP) is urging the public to exercise extreme caution, avoid burning, and check for local burn permit suspensions. Residents are advised to properly extinguish campfires and avoid using spark-emitting equipment in dry, grassy areas.
