Effective: General Technical, Organizational, Conforming, and Correcting Amendments to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations

🌐 Visit event website →

About this event

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has issued a final rule to implement technical, organizational, and conforming amendments to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR). These changes are intended to correct inadvertent errors, remove obsolete references, and improve the overall clarity and consistency of existing regulatory provisions. The rule also includes updates to the agency's rules of organization, procedures, and practice. Because the amendments do not impose new material requirements or increase compliance obligations, the FMCSA has invoked the good cause exception under the Administrative Procedure Act (APA) to issue the rule without prior notice and opportunity for public comment. The rule is effective as of July 21, 2026. Key updates include the removal of obsolete references to water carriers, over which the FMCSA lacks jurisdiction, and the formalization of the elimination of medical grandfathering provisions. Petitions for reconsideration of this final rule must be submitted to the FMCSA Administrator by August 20, 2026.
