Anchorage Assembly Public Hearing: Major Modification to Enlighten Extracts Marijuana Manufacturing SLUP
📍 Anchorage Assembly Chambers, Anchorage, Alaska
About this event
The Anchorage Planning Department has recommended approval for a major modification to the special land use permit (SLUP) for Enlighten Extracts, LLC, a marijuana manufacturing facility located at 524 E. 48th Avenue. The proposed modification involves increasing the licensed premises by 2,700 square feet within the existing building footprint. The facility, which has been operational since 2021, was originally approved by the Anchorage Assembly in June 2020 under Resolution AR 2020-166.
Because the expansion exceeds 20% of the original licensed premises, the modification requires Anchorage Assembly approval following a public hearing. The Planning Department confirmed that the facility remains in compliance with zoning standards for the I-1 Light Industrial district. Both the Traffic Engineering Department and the Anchorage Water and Wastewater Utility (AWWU) have submitted comments of non-objection regarding the proposal.
Public notice was mailed to 154 property owners on June 26, 2026. While the Midtown Community Council did not provide comments, the department received one public comment in opposition from a local resident citing concerns regarding odor, traffic safety, and the proximity of the facility to residential areas. The Planning Department's recommendation for approval is subject to six conditions, including requirements for odor control, municipal inspection access, and the submission of an industrial hygienist or professional engineer certification.
