Federal subsistence hunting season for the Chisana caribou herd opens August 10 and closes September 30 or when six bulls are taken, whichever comes first. Only permanent residents of Unit 12, Chistochina, Dot Lake, Healy Lake, and Mentasta Lake are eligible; permits are available at the Slana Ranger Station, Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge office in Tok, or by contacting park staff.
