Eaglecrest board to interview GM finalist, meet with Goldbelt on Thursday

Juneau residents can attend and submit written feedback Thursday when the Eaglecrest Board of Directors publicly interviews the finalist for general manager. CBJ Human Resources will collect comment forms from the public after the interview for the board's consideration.

The board meets July 2 at 5:30 p.m. in Assembly Chambers to interview Julie Jackson Piper, the named finalist for the position. The board will also hold a separate conversation with Goldbelt, Inc., Juneau's urban Alaska Native corporation with more than 3,800 shareholders of primarily Tlingit descent. The agenda does not specify the subject of the Goldbelt discussion, and neither Eaglecrest nor Goldbelt has published a public explanation of the topic.

Piper brings prior CBJ experience to the role. She currently serves as Recreation Manager for the City of Richland, Washington, a position she has held since 2018. She previously worked for the City and Borough of Juneau as Aquatics Manager and held roles at Eaglecrest as Youth and Community Outreach Coordinator and Snowsports School Supervisor. The board used the same public-interview format in 2024 when it interviewed two finalists for the general manager position, including Piper.

The meeting includes two public participation periods, one early in the agenda and one following committee reports, giving residents additional opportunities to address the board beyond the formal interview segment. After the public interview, the board will recess into executive session to discuss confidential candidate information. The Alaska Open Meetings Act requires that public bodies state the purpose for entering executive session on the record. The agenda cites discussion of matters that "may tend to defame or prejudice the character or reputation of any person" as the basis for closing that portion of the meeting.
