DOT&PF seeks bids for prilled urea de-icer

Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities is seeking bids for prilled urea, a nitrogen-based de-icing chemical for purchase and delivery to statewide roadways. The solicitation covers a one-time purchase plus a one-year as-needed contract.

Bids are due June 25 at 2:00 p.m. Alaska Time, with public opening immediately following. Late bids or amendments will be considered non-responsive and will not be opened or accepted for evaluation.

Prilled urea differs from traditional salt-based de-icers. Earlier state solicitations in 2023 and 2025 also specified prilled urea for ice control on state-maintained roads, grounding the current procurement in an established pattern.

Shannon McCarthy, speaking at a recent DOT meeting, reminded the public that the department "provides a frontline service to Alaskans" through road and airport maintenance and infrastructure improvements.
