DNR opens comment on 20-acre noncompetitive land sale near Homer

About 20 acres of state land roughly 10 miles northwest of Homer would be sold without competitive bidding under a proposal now open for public comment. Written comments are due by 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31.

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mining, Land and Water, issued the notice under a statute that allows sales to qualified public and charitable applicants without an auction. The parcel is an unsurveyed portion of land south of the road in the NW1/4SW1/4 of Section 28, Township 5 South, Range 14 West, Seward Meridian, in the Kenai Peninsula Borough. The notice does not name the applicant.

A second public and charitable notice is open on the same schedule. It covers a proposed sale near Cheri Lakes Subdivision to the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, with comments also due Aug. 31.

The department is separately weighing an unrelated and far larger proposal in the Mat-Su, a conveyance of nearly 20,000 acres near Houston to AIDEA.

Comments on the Homer parcel go to Andrew Miller at the Division of Mining, Land and Water in Anchorage. They may be submitted in writing by mail, fax or email as listed in the notice.

Only those who submit timely written comments during the comment period may file a formal appeal of the Final Finding and Decision. The Homer notice is filed as ADL 234803.
