Cordova asks residents to conserve water for weeks as supply runs low

Cordova residents are being asked to use less water for the next few weeks. The city said Thursday that its water supply is running low because of low snowpack and a stretch without rain.

The notice, which lists Acting Public Works Director Malvin Fajardo as a contact, tells residents not to panic but to cut back. It also warns against easing off when the weather turns. "Rain is expected soon, but it won't be enough to refill our water supply," the alert said. Residents should keep conserving "even if it rains in the next few weeks." The notice does not say whether mandatory restrictions are being considered.

Cordova's water utility serves roughly 2,700 people and draws on surface water fed by precipitation, so dry spells show up quickly in supply levels.

The city posted a nearly identical conservation notice in August 2025.
