Bethel CAP clinic offers vocational rights help June 24
Residents of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta with disabilities are invited to a Client Assistance Program clinic in Bethel on Wednesday, June 24, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the AVCP Tugkar Conference Room, 570 3rd Avenue. The session is open to students, families, educators, and adults with disabilities seeking guidance on employment and education goals.
The Disability Law Center of Alaska is "an independent, non-profit law firm providing legal advocacy for people with disabilities throughout Alaska," according to the organization. It operates the federally funded Client Assistance Program, which serves people seeking or receiving services from Alaska's Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, tribal vocational rehabilitation programs, or Centers for Independent Living. According to the Disability Law Center, "CAP helps you understand your rights and responsibilities in the VR process, provides information and advice about services available under the Rehabilitation Act, and can help resolve problems or disagreements that may arise during your VR case."
Attendees can learn how to advocate for themselves, understand their rights, and connect with vocational services, according to the event listing.
The clinic is co-hosted by the Association of Village Council Presidents, a tribal nonprofit serving 56 federally recognized tribes in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region of southwestern Alaska. Bethel serves as the regional hub and main government and commercial center for the delta's villages. The clinic is open to all community members.
