Bethel bulky-item pickup window closes at end of July

Bethel residents have until the end of July to claim their one free bulky-item pickup of the year. The City of Bethel Utility Department's Clean Up and Green Up season runs May through July.

The seasonal pickup is meant to keep large items out of neighborhood dumpsters. The city lists items that must go to the landfill rather than dumpsters: furniture, appliances, construction debris, car parts, motors, snow machines, four-wheelers, paint, tree cuttings and brush, oils, and pallets. Illegal dumping in public dumpster areas may result in fines. Bethel does not have curbside trash collection, so large items that miss the seasonal pickup must be hauled directly to the landfill by the resident.

The city does not schedule pickups automatically. Residents must call the Utility Department to set one up. The office is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and can be reached at 907-543-2023. Residents who want more frequent dumpster service can call 907-543-7711.

Residents who miss the July deadline still have a year-round option: one free truckload of trash to the landfill per day.
