Assembly Approves $64.8M Bond Appropriation for Capital Projects
The Anchorage Assembly voted unanimously Tuesday night to appropriate $64.86 million in voter-approved general obligation bond proceeds for public safety, transit, fire protection, roads, parks and other municipal improvements.
The 12-0 vote on May 12, 2026, allows affected departments to begin working on projects immediately following voter ratification of the bond authorization in the April 7, 2026 ballot propositions.
The appropriation divides funds across five municipal accounts: $16.14 million to the area-wide general capital improvement project fund, $1.72 million to the Chugach State Park Access Service Area fund, $2.5 million to the Anchorage Fire Service Area fund, $38.45 million to the Anchorage Roads and Drainage Service Area fund, and $6.05 million to the Anchorage Parks and Recreation Service Area fund.
Assembly Chair Anna Brawley opened the public hearing on the resolution. No one came forward to testify.
"Seeing and hearing no further testimony, this public hearing is closed," Brawley said. "What's the will of the body?"
The resolution passed on a roll-call vote with all 12 members present voting yes. Due to intermittent IT issues during the meeting, the clerk conducted the vote by calling the roll rather than using the electronic voting system.
"On a vote of 12 to 0, this item has passed the body unanimously," Brawley said.
