Anchorage fire capital plan cites 70 shifts with no ALS ambulance available

Anchorage residents calling 911 found no advanced life support ambulance available roughly 70 times in 2024, and no basic life support unit available more than 315 times, according to the Anchorage Fire Department's 2026-2031 capital improvement plan.

The proposed 2026 capital budget carries $51.226 million in bonds for Fire Department projects across six years.

The new plan adds a Midtown ALS ambulance at $1.58 million with seven new full-time positions, plus funding for ambulance replacement, alternate response vehicles, heavy rescue units, radios, and station rebuilds, including $11 million for Station #12 and $8 million for Station #11. The plan also funds a new Station #16 at $8 million. Station #11 is in Eagle River.

The plan says Station #10's well remains non-potable due to bacterial contamination, and sets aside $100,000 to address it.
