Anchorage Assembly set to award $1.35M in homeless housing grants to five nonprofits
The Anchorage Assembly is scheduled to vote June 23 on $1.35 million in supportive housing grants to five nonprofits serving people experiencing homelessness, domestic violence survivors, and others at risk of losing housing.
The Anchorage Health Department issued a request for grant proposals in March 2026 and received 12 responses, all of which met the criteria. Negotiations with the five selected awardees are complete, and the department is requesting Assembly approval of the grant agreements.
The grants target five service areas: life skills training, mental health services, outpatient health services, outreach services, and substance abuse treatment.
RurAL CAP draws the largest share at $507,750.40 for a 12-month period. The remaining awards go to Alaska Women's Aid in Crisis at $316,350.40 for a 10-month period; Covenant House Alaska at $240,120.00 for 12 months; New Life Development at $166,848.00 for 12 months; and the Aleut Community of St. Paul Island, a federally recognized tribal government, at $118,931.20 for 12 months. All grant periods run from execution of the grant agreement.
Funding comes from $550,000 in federal HOME-ARP entitlement dollars and $800,000 from the 2026 city operating budget. Health Department Director Kimberly Rash approved the recommendation, submitted by Mayor Suzanne LaFrance.
If the Assembly approves the grants, the Anchorage Health Department will execute individual grant agreements with each nonprofit in the amounts and for the periods listed above.
