Anchorage Assembly asked to add $75K to Rabbit Creek road contract after heavy breakup damage
The Rabbit Creek View and Heights Limited Road Service Area has exhausted its road maintenance contract before the contract year ends, and the Anchorage Assembly takes up a request for $75,000 more at its July 7 meeting.
Mayor Suzanne LaFrance's administration attributes the overrun to the 2025-2026 winter and spring breakup. "Because roads in the service area experienced more degradation and wear than anticipated during the 2025/2026 winter and spring breakup, the service area has exhausted the current contract capacity on road maintenance services," LaFrance wrote in the administration memorandum.
The RCVH board is seeking Assembly approval of the proposed amendment for additional "as needed" road maintenance services. The contract with Northern Gravel and Trucking was awarded in November 2025 for an annual amount not to exceed $105,300, covering the period through Aug. 31, 2026. A first amendment in April brought the total to $131,000. Tuesday's item would be the second increase in less than a year. If Amendment No. 2 and all four renewal options are exercised, the total not-to-exceed amount would reach $627,200, roughly six times the original annual amount.
