Alaska opens 11 wildfire investigations across four regions

Alaska fire agencies opened 11 wildfire investigations between June 6 and June 8, spanning from the Kenai Peninsula to the Interior and eastern regions.

The investigations include two incidents near coordinates 61.61°N, 149.76°W (Wonderland, discovered June 8 at 19:54 UTC; Dana, discovered June 6 at 15:09 UTC), three near coordinates 61.56°N between 148.92°W and 149.52°W (Bayridge, discovered June 6 at 05:53 UTC; Maud Road 2, discovered June 6 at 01:31 UTC; Jim Lake, discovered June 6 at 23:20 UTC), and one on Yentna Island in the Susitna Valley (discovered June 6 at 21:30 UTC). Additional investigations opened at Tustumena on the Kenai Peninsula (discovered June 6 at 07:52 UTC), Raven near Fairbanks (discovered June 7 at 03:25 UTC), McKenzie in the Interior (discovered June 8 at 06:16 UTC), Bonanza near the Yukon border (discovered June 7 at 22:02 UTC), and at Milepost 4 of the Edgerton Highway in the Copper River Basin (discovered June 8 at 21:32 UTC).

All incidents remain at 0.00 acres under Fire Investigation status in the Alaska 511 system. The recorded size reflects initial reporting status rather than confirmed fire growth.

State Representative Ky Holland told the Alaska State House in May that "the risk to Alaska has continued to grow with the change in our climate that has both increased the risk of more severe wildfires as well as extending the length of the seasons."
