Alaska Dems Picnic set for Thursday at Abbott Loop Community Park

Alaska Democrats are holding a picnic Thursday at Abbott Loop Community Park in Anchorage, a volunteer gathering ahead of the August 18 nonpartisan primary.

The event is set for 5 p.m. AKDT on July 23. It comes as the party works to build grassroots support for a fall ballot that includes Mary Peltola's Senate challenge to Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan. Under Alaska's top-four primary system, adopted by voters in 2020, the top four finishers advance to a November 3 general election decided by ranked choice voting.

Organizers have not published a speaker list or agenda. The Alaska Democratic Party describes volunteers as central to its electoral strategy. "Volunteers are the backbone of our movement," the party says. "From knocking doors and making phone calls to hosting house parties and community events, grassroots organizers help us elect Democrats up and down the ballot."
