State seeks public comment on Sleetmute Airport lease expansion

The state Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development is accepting public comments through May 29 on a proposed expansion of the airport lease in Sleetmute, a village on the Kuskokwim River about 190 miles west of Anchorage.

The amendment would add 50.33 acres to the existing lease held by the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities. The additional land, designated as Tract III, was conveyed to the state in trust for airport purposes and is shown on the current Airport Layout Plan for Sleetmute Airport.

The Municipal Lands Trust Officer, acting as trustee for the future city in Sleetmute, approved the proposed amendment on April 29. The Sleetmute Traditional Council endorsed the lease expansion in a resolution dated April 24.

The original airport lease was issued on August 30, 2017. The amendment updates the legal description to include the additional acreage.

The approval becomes final 30 days after publication of this notice unless modified based on public comments.
