State seeks comments on GPS station lease at King Salmon Airport

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is accepting public comments through May 27 on a proposed five-year lease for a permanent GPS station at King Salmon Airport.

EarthScope Consortium Inc. has applied to lease approximately 300 square feet at the airport to operate and maintain a global positioning system for earthquake monitoring and research. The lease would run through December 1, 2030, at an annual rent of $625.

The GPS station would be used for non-aeronautical purposes. No fueling would be authorized on the premises.

Competing applications or written comments must be received by 4:30 p.m. on May 27, 2026. The department will then decide whether to execute the lease. Only those who submit written comments or competing applications will receive notification of the decision.

The department reserves the right to reject any or all applications or comments.
