State proposes extending Deadhorse Airport lease for phone cooperative

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is accepting public comments through May 6 on a proposal to extend a land lease at Deadhorse Airport for Arctic Slope Telephone Association Cooperative.

The extension would add five years to the existing lease for a 71,473-square-foot parcel that houses a communications building, shop, antenna tower and outdoor equipment storage. The annual rent is $20,369.81.

The state can grant the extension without competitive bidding under Alaska law. The department will decide whether to approve the extension after the comment deadline.

The lease covers Lot 3A, Block 60 at the airport, which serves the North Slope oil fields and surrounding communities.

Written comments must be received by 4:30 p.m. on May 6, 2026. The department will notify only those who submit comments of its final decision.
