Railbelt power grid technical group to meet May 6

A technical subcommittee of the Railbelt Transmission Organization will meet May 6 at 8:00 a.m. to discuss Alaska's power grid operations.

The meeting will be held by teleconference through the Alaska Energy Authority in Anchorage. The subcommittee advises the RTO's Governance Committee on technical matters related to the electrical transmission system that connects Fairbanks to the Kenai Peninsula.

Under the RTO's bylaws, subcommittee meetings are not open to the public. The subcommittee can only make recommendations to the Governance Committee, which holds public meetings and makes final decisions on RTO policies.

The Railbelt Transmission Organization coordinates the operation of the electrical grid serving Southcentral and Interior Alaska. The technical subcommittee reviews engineering and operational issues before they reach the Governance Committee.
