Marine pilot exam set for April 28 in Sitka; applications due Feb. 27

The state Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development will hold a local knowledge exam for marine pilots on April 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in Sitka. Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on February 27, 2026.

The exam will take place at Sitka Fine Arts Camp, 110 College Drive. Marine pilots guide large vessels through Alaska's coastal waters, requiring detailed knowledge of local navigation hazards, tides, and weather patterns.

Applicants must submit a complete exam application packet to the Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing before the February deadline. The division has not specified how many positions are available or what routes the exam will cover.
