Tuluksak power plant renovation project open for bids through May 6

The Alaska Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development is accepting bids through May 6 for a complete renovation of the power plant in Tuluksak, a Yup'ik community of about 400 people on the lower Kuskokwim River.

The project includes building renovation, installation of new generators, replacement of switchgear, and upgrades to mechanical and electrical systems. Funding comes from the U.S. Department of Energy, the Denali Commission, and the State of Alaska.

A non-mandatory pre-bid meeting is scheduled for April 23 at 2:00 p.m. by phone. Potential bidders can call 1-469-810-0642 and enter conference ID 217 052 991#. No site visit is scheduled before the bid opening.

The project is exempt from Build America, Buy America Act requirements under a Department of Energy tribal waiver issued in August 2023. The waiver applies to both the federal Grid Resilience funds and the state, local, and Denali Commission matching funds.

Contractors must provide all labor, materials, supervision, equipment, tools, transportation, quality control, and supplies needed to complete the work.
