State seeks public input on commercial cabins proposed for Resurrection Bay

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources is accepting public comments through April 24 on a proposal to build commercial recreation cabins along the southeastern shore of Resurrection Bay near Seward.

Pure Alaska LLC has applied for a five-year permit to establish a year-round lodging site on state land. The company proposes up to five cabins, each 16 feet by 20 feet, along with a storage shed and composting or pit toilets. The site would serve guests using the area for commercial recreation activities.

The application identifies three possible locations: Salmon Falls on the southern portion of Humpy Cove, a site on the Resurrection Peninsula half a mile east-southeast of Hat Island, and Atlas Pass on the eastern portion of Eldorado Narrows across from Fox Island. Pure Alaska would select one of the three sites if the state approves the permit.

The cabins would be built on pier blocks rather than permanent foundations. If approved, the permit would run from May 2026 through April 2031.
