State seeks public comment on Yankee Creek placer mining expansion

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources is accepting public comments through May 1 on a proposal to expand placer mining operations on Yankee Creek in the Innoko Mining District near Takotna.

Barney Anselment has applied to add a new mining claim and update the mine plan for the YCC2 and YCC3 operations. The amendment would authorize placer mining activity and cross-country travel on state lands through December 31, 2034.

The mining sites are located in sections 3 and 4 of Township 29 South, Range 13 East, Kateel River Meridian, and section 36 of Township 34 North, Range 38 West, Seward Meridian.

The state is reviewing the application for a Plan of Operation Approval under 11 AAC 86.800, which covers placer mining activity and reclamation on state lands. The department may issue an authorization with conditions after reviewing public comments and completing its analysis.
