State seeks public comment on Haines State Forest management plan

The Alaska Division of Forestry and Fire Protection is accepting public comments through June 5, 2026, on a draft management plan for the Haines State Forest Resource Management Area.

The plan outlines how the state will manage natural resources within the forest boundary under principles of sustained yield and multiple use. It includes a land classification order that designates how state-owned land within the forest can be used.

The division will hold public meetings during the review period, both virtually and in person. Meeting details will be posted at forestry.alaska.gov/HSFamendment/.

The draft plan is available online at that same website. Printed copies can be requested.

Written comments must be received by June 5, 2026. Send comments by email to [email protected] or by mail to Alaska Division of Forestry and Fire Protection, ATTN: Forest Planning, 550 W. 7th Ave. Suite 1450, Anchorage, AK 99501.

After the public review period, the division intends to adopt the management plan. Changes may be made based on public comments.
