State seeks public comment on Gold Dust Creek placer mining plan

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources is accepting public comments through May 14 on a placer mining application for Gold Dust Creek near Central in the Circle Mining District.

Don Glassburn, Fawn Glassburn and Carole Evans applied for permits to conduct mechanical placer mining on state land in Section 17, Township 7 North, Range 11 East. The operation would run from the date permits are issued through December 31, 2030.

The application includes requests for a Plan of Operation Approval and Reclamation Plan Approval under state regulations. The state may also authorize cross-country travel on state lands outside the mining locations.

Written comments must reach the Division of Mining, Land and Water at the Fairbanks Mine Permitting Office by 5:00 p.m. on May 14. Comments can be mailed to 3700 Airport Way, Fairbanks, Alaska 99709, or emailed to [email protected].

The full application packet is available for review at the Fairbanks office. After reviewing public comments, the state may issue permits with conditions or modify the proposed activity.
