State seeks public comment on FAA lease extension at Tuntutuliak Airport

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is accepting public comments through April 10 on a proposal to extend a Federal Aviation Administration lease at Tuntutuliak Airport by 20 years.

The amendment would add new navigational aids to the existing lease, including an automated weather observation system and a navigational equipment shelter. The FAA would continue operating and maintaining navigation, communication, and weather equipment at the airport at no cost to the state.

The proposal includes rights of way for above and below ground utility lines connecting the navigational aids. Current equipment covered under the lease includes runway end identifier lights and an existing navigational equipment shelter and building.

Tuntutuliak Airport serves the village of Tuntutuliak in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, about 450 miles west of Anchorage. The community of roughly 400 residents relies on the airport for mail, supplies, and emergency medical transport.

Written comments or objections must be received by 4:30 p.m. on April 10, 2026. The department will notify only those who submit comments of its final decision.
