State seeks comments on Skwentna Airport land permit by May 15

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is accepting public comments through May 15 on a proposed five-year permit for private aircraft storage at Skwentna Airport.

Jon Andrews has applied to lease approximately 13,000 square feet of state airport land for storing, tying down, and maintaining a private airplane. The annual rent would be $1,612 plus associated fees.

The permit would cover Lot 4, Block 100 at the airport, located about 70 miles northwest of Anchorage in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. Skwentna serves as a hub for backcountry access and remote communities in the western Susitna Valley.

Written comments or competing applications must reach the department by 4:30 p.m. on May 15, 2026. The department will then decide whether to approve the permit and will notify only those who submit comments or applications.

The department reserves the right to reject any or all applications and may adjust technical details or terms.
