State seeks bids for seismic upgrades to nine Interior bridges

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is accepting bids through May 19 for seismic retrofits on nine bridges across the Interior, with work estimated to cost between $5 million and $10 million.

The project targets bridges on major highways including the Richardson, Parks, Edgerton and Old Rich at Copper Center routes. Work includes the Tanana River crossing at Big Delta, the Copper River bridge at Chitina, and the Tanana River bridge at Nenana. All retrofits must be completed by October 31, 2027.

Bids are due by 2:00 p.m. on May 19 at the DOT&PF Engineering Services Building in Fairbanks. The department estimates the total project cost between $5 million and $10 million.

The nine bridges scheduled for seismic upgrades are the Copper River bridge on the Edgerton Highway, Tonsina River bridge, Klutina River bridge on the Old Rich at Copper Center route, North Slough Tanana River and Tanana River at Nenana bridges on the Parks Highway, and the Tanana River Big Delta, Little Salcha River and Klutina River bridges on the Richardson Highway.
