State proposes five-year lease for private plane parking at Kodiak Airport

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is accepting applications and public comments through June 11 on a proposal to lease 3,500 square feet of state land at Kodiak Airport for private aircraft parking.

Curtis Cooper has applied to lease Revetment Area 1, Lot B, for five years at an annual rent of $759.50. The permit would allow Cooper to park his private aircraft and related vehicles on the state-owned airport property.

Alaska News previously reported that the state has proposed similar lease extensions for airport hangars in Kodiak and Yakutat, as well as a 10-year lease for a private airstrip near Skwentna. Alaska airports face capacity constraints for general aviation aircraft parking and tie-down facilities, according to Federal Aviation Administration environmental assessments.

The department will decide whether to execute the permit after the June 11 deadline. Competing applications or written comments must be received by 4:30 p.m. on June 11, 2026.
