Southwest Airlines seeks lease expansion at Anchorage airport

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is accepting public comments through May 9 on a proposed lease expansion for Southwest Airlines at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport.

The airline is seeking to add roughly 2,600 square feet of space to its existing operating agreement, which runs through June 30, 2033. The expansion would include operations and office space in the South Terminal, two ticketing kiosks near Door 4, computer equipment space in the baggage area, a customer service podium near carousel 5, and rooftop space for an air-to-ground antenna.

The current terminal rental rate is $105.31 per square foot per year. The additional space would support Southwest's scheduled passenger service at the airport.

The public can submit comments or competing lease applications by email to [email protected] or by mail to Brandi Morris, Leasing Office, Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, P.O. Box 196960, Anchorage, Alaska 99519-6960. Comments must arrive by 2:30 p.m. on May 9.

The lease file is available for review during business hours at the airport leasing office in the South Terminal at 5000 W. International Airport Road. People needing special accommodations to review the file should contact Morris at 907-266-2671 at least five days in advance.

After the comment period closes, the department will decide whether to approve the lease supplement.
