Alaska Aerospace seeks contractor for launch tower corrosion study

Alaska Aerospace Corporation is seeking a contractor to assess corrosion and structural damage at its launch tower and support equipment at the Pacific Spaceport Complex in Kodiak.

The study will use non-destructive testing methods to evaluate the condition of all surfaces and structural components at Launch Pad 1. The findings will guide future maintenance and determine how to extend the life of the facility.

The request for proposals is numbered AAC-26-001. Alaska Aerospace Corporation operates the spaceport under the state Department of Military and Veterans' Affairs.

The launch tower sits on Narrow Cape, about 25 miles south of the city of Kodiak. The facility has supported orbital and suborbital launches since 1998.
